Our industry once again finds itself in changing times, exacerbated by the financial crisis. Service organizations face not only strategic concerns as to how to 'find' the best medical language specialists out there, but also now it has become even more critical to KEEP our workforce together and strategically add employees as we can afford them.

I have enjoyed these past two years serving as one of your MTIA Board members. During my tenure I have seen the partnership with AHDI work strategically very well. I have been involved in our realization that the Next-Gen potential employee represents answer(s) to multiple issues that service owners face. How to attract, develop, and promote these outstanding candidates are but a few of the challenges that our Board faces. I have co-chaired our MTIA Work Force development Committee which has begun initiatives to:

  • Promote practical Apprenticeship opportunities for graduates benefiting MTSO's without the burdensome costs
  • Develop training curricula to teach and certify speech recognition skill sets that can augment our MTSO workforces
  • Help to foster awareness and legislation focusing our development initiatives through AHDI approved programs which can be monitored and critically reviewed to ensure that the people being trained can be hired.

I have enjoyed these efforts and would like to serve you by continuing for one more term. Our goals would include:
  • Delivering a MTSO friendly apprenticeship package allowing for cost-effective promotion of MT's within our organizations
  • Establishing a credentialing and development plan for ASRT
  • Continuing to seek MTSO-friendly legislation to fund the development and support of individuals desiring to be in our industry
