We are approaching an inflection point in Healthcare. Never has there been such an exhilarating nor intimidating time in our industry’s history. Healthcare will soon represent nearly 20% of the total economic output of the USA. Medical documentation & administration represents nearly 25% of all healthcare costs. Payers (Government, insurers, consumers & employers) are struggling to fund escalating healthcare costs. The new administration has set its #2 agenda item as healthcare reform. Many are already focused on creating value propositions that deliver high quality documentation at lower costs. Disruptive technologies such as speech recognition and Doctor initiated EMRs threaten the existence of our basic business value chains.

Our challenge is how to continue to add value, remain relevant and above all to be cost effective. My goal is to assist the association and its members by providing leadership, advocacy and creative thinking to help forge our participation in the transformation of our Healthcare Industry as it seeks to provide better care, reduced medical errors and more affordable care for everyone.

Computers will not replace humans but software, education and new work flows will change how we interact with computers and the data to deliver the required medical documentation that serves the two masters of both Patient Care & Financial Reimbursements. I believe it absolutely essential that we support our membership by affording them proper representation and membership services to help ensure their operational viability and financial success. I believe it also to be my fiduciary responsibility as an elected leader to challenge status quo and chart a course that helps to ensure our relevance and future health as a viable & healthy industry.

I believe the forces of disruptive technology, international labor, EMR adoption and an overall desire to reduce medical care costs threaten to change our industry at a faster pace and greater extent than ever before in our history. This perfect storm creates stress, turmoil, uncertainty and yet also opportunity. I view my role as an elected leader by the membership to be an advocate not for my business but for the overall good of the group members of the association.
