Code of Ethics
The goal of the Medical Transcription Industry Alliance (MTIA) is to promote superior performance standards for medical transcription service companies, and to provide a forum for industry representatives to exchange information.
Members of MTIA subscribe to the Code of Ethics and Standards adopted by the organization in Chicago on May 2, 1992:
We pledge to provide medical transcription service of the highest professional standards to our clients in order to contribute to the quality and efficiency of the healthcare industry.
We pledge to conduct ourselves and our businesses in a dignified, honorable manner that benefits the medical transcription profession and industry.
We pledge to deal with our clients with the highest standards for integrity and honesty, and to communicate clearly our standards for:
- Protection of confidentiality
- Quality of transcription
- Turnaround time
- Billing Practices that include definable, verifiable units of measurement.
We pledge to protect and promote the dignity of our employees:
- To respect them as individuals.
- To honor their right to privacy.
- To encourage and reward continuing education.
- To uphold the highest professional standards for confidentiality and quality work.
- To respect employee rights as reflected in federal, state, and local laws.
We pledge to follow the highest ethical principles and procedures in relationships with colleagues in the medical transcription industry.
We pledge to achieve and maintain the highest attainable levels of professional competence in medical transcription businesses.
