About MTIA

The Medical Transcription Industry Association is a not-for-profit trade association serving the needs of medical transcription companies, vendors, and health information management professionals.

The MTIA began as a forum sponsored by the Health Professions Institute in 1989. The forum enabled medical transcription company owners and managers to discuss business issues, technology, and concerns unique to medical transcription business management.

At the time, MTSO members relied on the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT), an excellent source of information for individual transcriptionists, but the business professional needed an organization that represented the interests of medical transcription business owners and services.

Thus, representatives from about 100 of the smallest to the largest transcription companies established the MTIA. In 1992, the group adopted a Code of Ethics and Standards to guide members of the organization. In 1993, the organization’s bylaws and MTIA mission were developed and approved. And, in October 1993, MTIA officially came into being.
