Protected Health Information Principles and the HIPAA Compliance Toolkit

MTIA’s set of Protected Health Information Principles (PHIP) are designed to provide its members with a means to quantify and evaluate the relative levels of protection and privacy that must be afforded under HIPAA as they relate to the transcription process. These principles encompass the areas of visibility, disclosure, verifiability, consistency, and enforceability and help member companies navigate the world of HIPAA regulations.

In support of these principles, MTIA developed a task force to evaluate the challenges posed by HIPAA to its members, and to review available solutions that would help them meet those challenges. The task force selected a HIPAA compliance toolkit, Privacy Advantage, which utilizes a state-of-the-art software solution designed specifically for the needs and requirements of a Business Associate (BA). With this solution, MTIA members stay focused on HIPAA issues that are specific to the transcription process, easily measure their current status of compliance, and clearly identify areas where deficiencies exist. Utilizing this toolkit, MTIA members will be able to speak in detail of the internal process that has helped them achieve and maintain compliance, even as HIPAA regulations continually evolve. The program, which is administered by InterFix, LLC (www.interfix.biz) is immediately available at a significant discount to MTIA members.
